Red Dwarf: Are there any Sci-Fi Comedies Left

British humor in general and British sitcoms and series in particular can be distinguished through several characteristics, the most obvious of which is the usage of non-traditional plots and themes. In terms of sitcoms, The Office can be seen as a good example. In terms of sci-fi comedy, Red Dwarf can be considered as one of the most famous representatives of such genre, creating a certain cult following. (Picture 1) The series talks about the story of Dave Lister, a technician on the space ship “Red Dwarf” and the only survivor of radiation discharge. The following is a brief review of the cult series.

The series, despite that apparent non-comic synopsis, is famous for its comedy style. Accordingly, characteristic of British comedy in general, it can be stated that the unconventional settings in which the characters are put are part of the reason the series received a cult following. (Picture 2) For those interested in a detail analysis of the series, either for cheap custom essay writing or essays editing, the show is filled with various references to other media. One of the examples of the latter can be seen through the last season, which almost entirely consists of references to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. Such references add to the comic nature of the series and endow it with a special charm. In conclusion, I would recommend the series to watch, giving them four stars out of five, mainly for the created universe, in which a space setting is funny to watch.
